This 80,000 sf elementary school has the distinction of being the first LEED certified school in NC.  Hickory Construction signed on as general contractor and LEED advisor.  The school was fitted with enhanced heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems with auto-control functions.  Automatic occupancy sensors control lights and other systems such as water fountains.  Waterless urinals, low-VOC materials and Forest Stewarship Council certified wood were also utilized.

Also of note: The Catawba County School System built two additional nearly identical schools concurrently with this one during one of the most challenging winter weather periods in decades.  Of the three, Hickory Construction was the only contractor to complete the project on time.
